Organic Spotlight Snow Pea

58-66 days to harvest compact 2.5-3' tall Pisum sativum

Large, sweet snow peas, both purple and green!  We love how easy it is to trellis (or not trellis) these 2 to 3-foot vines, cascading vivid pods with a glorious crunch. About half the pods are bright emerald green, half are deep burgundy purple and you’ll find a few beautifully variegated both colors…those are our favorite…!

Compact 2.5 to 3-foot vines make Spotlight Snow Pea perfect for containers or small gardens. Even in our large gardens, we always plant them to enjoy several weeks ahead of the full-size snap peas, so the combination of the two makes for 5+ weeks of glorious pea harvest.

Early maturity also makes Spotlight Snow Pea an ideal fall pea: sow in late July or early August for a harvest at the end of September of pods sweet as can be. (Pods that develop in the cool temperatures of fall convert many of their starches into sugar and they are even sweeter than any summer pea!) For a wider spectrum of pea pizazz try our Organic Spotlight Snow Pea Medley.

We are grateful for Cornell University sharing with us such scrumptious peas, Epistro and Merlot, and are humbled to remember and uplift untold generations of brilliant indigenous humxns co-adapting with peas across time immemorial. We ‘save’ these seeds to share with you and we hope you will, too! As well as (y)our great-great-great grandchildren.

I planted these this spring and again in the fall. They are unique and tasty for my farmer market customers. Great germination.

Every year, I grow snow peas in my garden (because I love them!). Over the years, I have found some varieties that I have enjoyed, but they weren’t ever truly wonderful and the yields haven’t been very stellar … until NOW! One packet of seeds resulted in over 3 pounds (not counting the ones that never made it into the house ore got too big because I missed seeing them) of wonderful, sweetly delicious, tender, and colorful peas. The purple ones are standard sized, but green ones seem to grow quite large without losing tenderness or flavor. This will be my new “go to” snow pea (until Fruition Seeds makes them even better!).
