90 days to harvest Withania somnifera

Often described as ‘feminine ginseng,’ the roots of ashwagandha are deeply medicinal, both tonic and adaptogenic, allowing our bodies to adapt to stress with greater resilience. If you’re looking for easy-to-grow medicinal herbs to restore and revitalize, Ashwagandha and Tulsi basil are at the top of our list.

At Fruition, we sow ashwagandha in soil blocks four weeks before final frost to transplant after final frost with one foot between plants. We delight in her silver-green leaves and miniature white flowers turning into tiny red fruits inside golden husks. The seeds of ashwagandha are easy to save; we harvest her roots for medicine after first frost in fall. We make our own ashwagandha tincture to drop under our tongues every night! Wishing you delicious resilience, as well.
