Organic Benary’s Giant Deep Red Zinnia
Description
These massive ivory blooms, like high summer clouds in a sea of green, float above long, strong stems perfect for cutting. Fully double, Giant White is dahlia-like with excellent vase life and impressive abundance. We also love Giant White for her low susceptibility to powdery mildew, so we’re harvesting her copious blooms right up to frost.
To see if a zinnia is at peak harvest for cutting, gently shake the stem from about eight inches below the bloom. If the stem bends even slightly, it’s not quite ready. Once the stem is stiff, harvest! We find zinnias last well over one week in a vase and often two, especially when kept out of direct sunlight.
Zinnias thrive in gardens as well as raised beds and containers & the more you harvest, the more they bloom!
At Fruition, we sow organic zinnia seeds indoors in soil blocks four weeks before final frost or directly into the soil after final frost with one foot between plants.
