42 days to harvest Brassica rapa

HEIRLOOM Also known as rapini, these tender leaves, stems and flower buds are some of our favorite greens on the planet. Steamed or sauteed, we love to coarsely chop rapini with an abundance of garlic! Over pasta, on pizza or as a dish unto herself, we cook rapini in so many ways similar to broccoli, which is much more challenging to grow here in our short seasons. Preferring cooler temperatures, rapini is a fabulous spring and fall crop; we also cover her with hoops and floating row cover to minimize flea beetle munchings.

Planting Method: Direct Sow Only

When to sow: Early spring (as soon as soil can be worked) to late summer

Sowing and seedling care: Sow 10-12 seeds per foot. (Thin.) Keep well watered to slow bolting. Spring crops are more susceptible to Flea Beetles than fall crops; control beetles with floating row cover. 

Seed Depth:  1/4 inch   Sun Needs: Full

Days to Germination: 4-7

Spacing after thinning: 4-6 inches; rows 18-24 inches apart

Days to Harvest: 42

Height: 2-3 feet

Harvest: Harvest entire plant when buds appear or pick buds for extended harvest.
