Beneficial pollinators flock to their bright blooms on long, strong 3+ foot stalks ideal for bouquets. Native to our mid-western prairies, Echinacea thrives once established without much care for years with roots easily divided to propagate more.

We toss their beautiful magenta petals on cakes, salads, curry and sushi all summer and echinacea is also deeply medicinal, well known for increasing immune function. The most medicinal part of the plant is the 2-year root followed by her seeds and then leaves; we make an Echinacea root-seed tincture that we take at the first sign of a cold.

Organic Echinacea

When to sow: For transplanting (recommended), 8 weeks before last frost, cold stratify (refrigerate in plastic bag with moist paper towel) for two weeks before sowing. Transplant into larger containers after first true leaves appear. Harden off & plant outside around last frost. (For direct sowing: cold stratify, sow after last frost)
Seed Depth: 1/4 inch
Full Sun/Partial Shade Days to Germination: 10-15 days at 65-70°F
Plant spacing after thinning: 12-24 inches

Care: Mulch to reduce weed & watering pressure, water well in first season. Divide only when plants appear crowded.
Days to first flower: 300-365 Height: 3 feet

Harvest: harvest immune boosting roots at 2-4 years old.
