A fantastical zinnia, this Zinderella! We confess we fell in love with this flower, but only come August. We had been warned and Friends, it’s true: her first flush was interesting, though solidly uninspiring. We cut them back (as so many flowers love) and sure enough, her blossoms ‘til frost were an absolutely stunning array of single, double and fully double blossoms in a dreamy peach palette, perfect for cutting. Enjoy every moment of this unusual beauty!
To see if a zinnia is at peak harvest for cutting, gently shake the stem from about eight inches below the bloom. If the stem bends even slightly, it’s not quite ready. Once the stem is stiff, harvest! We find zinnias last well over one week in a vase and often two, if kept out of direct sun.
