Organic Sweet Annie
Description
Sweet Annie makes the most fabulously fragrant and easy flower crowns! She’s also an exquisite filler in both fresh and dry arrangements. Her deep green, fern-like foliage quickly grows 4 to 6 feet tall, even in poor soil and partial sun. She is sweetly fragrant, like so many of her cousins in the sage family, remaining so for years in dry arrangements and wreaths. Enjoy our blog with the crown tutorial! We harvest her branches for such things from late July through September and harvest her just before flower for optimum fragrance in dry arrangements.
Readily re-seeding herself, our sweet annie patch is well outside our vegetable gardens in a place she can keep her own company for years!
My introduction to sweet annie was in 2004 at the Common Ground Fair in Maine when we were welcomed to the Fair by buckets of sweet annie and strawflower. With a quick lesson, we joined thousands of Fair-goers who had also made glorious crowns, fragrant and sweet!
Needless to say, we’ve been friends ever since.
At Fruition, we sow organic sweet annie in soil blocks indoors seeds four weeks before final frost, transplanting her final frost with one foot between plants.

These germinated well for me and grew up to at least 4-5 feet tall during a very dry summer with supplemental watering. They smell amazing and add quick height. They lasted through winds, rain and a little snow before they fell over. If my saved seeds don’t work, I’ll definitely purchase more.
