Earthy and sweet with delectable roots as well as greens, beets are one of Fruition Seeds’ favorite vegetables in any season. From classic red to golden and candy-stripe beets, all beets (and root vegetables, in general) prefer to grow where they are planted, from radish to beets, turnip to carrot. Beets grow best sown directly in the soil anytime early spring through late summer. We sow beets every three weeks for consistent harvest throughout the seasons.
Fun fact! Beet seeds often have 3 to 5 ‘seeds’ inside, so thinning is critical for healthy, abundant roots. This is true for chardas well, since they share the same genus/species, Beta vulgaris. The good news: these thinnings are also delicious!
