Organic Gentilina Heirloom Lettuce

We went looking for a more robust and bolt-tolerant cousin of Black-Seeded Simpson and Gentilina is what we found. An Italian heirloom, Gentilina's leaves are a rich lime green and perfect for both baby greens and full heads. Its baby leaves add bright juicy loft to any salad while the mature, slightly savoy leaves stack on top of one another to make massive (14+ inch) heads that remain tender and sweet weeks after other spring lettuces have bolted.

Organic Gentilina Lettuce HEIRLOOM We went looking for a more robust and bolt-tolerant cousin of Black-Seeded Simpson and Gentilina is what we found. With good soil, ample water and regualr, judicious harvest you can enjoy a single head of Gentilina for three months before it finally turns bitter and insists on making seed.

Caroline Hunt of Italy Hill Produce absolutely loves Gentilina for her markets all season long. We love the tender, well-blanched leaves in the heart of each head and for tacos all summer.

Most heirlooms are heirlooms for a reason and Gentilina: a splendid testimonial.

Grew beautifully in our high tunnel. An extremely flavorful and tender spring lettuce.
