Organic Virginia Tobacco A stunning addition to any garden, Virginia Tobacco is easy to grow and attracts hummingbirds, butterflies & countless other pollinator species with dramatic 6’ stalks with dozens of tubular coral-rose flowers with sweet jasmine scent blooming from the height of summer to early autumn. Tobacco lasts one week as a cut flower.

Tobacco thrives in the Northeast when transplanted 6 weeks before final frost. Sow 2 seeds per cell, taking care to not cover the seed with soil (light is required for germination). Bottom water to avoid displacing seeds and soil. Thin seedlings to the strongest 1 per cell. Harden off and transplant after danger of frost, leaving 12-18” between plants. Though tall, tobacco does not require trellising.

Harvest as blossoms open for optimum vase life.

Full Sun. Annual.

80 days to maturity

Nicotiana tabacum

I was impressed by the size and sturdiness of these tobacco plants. I planted them along a fence but they were not tethered or supported in any way and a few wind storms that had taken out my amaranth plants and even corn left these plants standing unharmed.
