Organic Piracicaba Broccoli HEIRLOOM Extraordinary flavor is why we love Piricicaba. (Okay, we love to say the name, too.)

Growing large heads of broccoli consistenly a challenge in our climate and over time we've realized that outstanding broccoli flavor is what we're after more than the huge head of broccoli itself.

Enter, Piracicaba.

It's head production is minimal but its abundant, succulent side-shoots are sweet and tender enough for enjoying raw. Perfect for the home garden, the entire plant is absolutely delicious from stem to leaf to floret and it continues to produce delicious side-shoots all season long. In fact, we are still enjoying them just before New Years 2016 as I write.

If you want a head of broccoli, grow Umpqua. If you want to eat the most delicious broccoli-like vegetable we know of, grow Piricicaba.

We didn't protect our broccoli early or well enough from cabbage butterfly, so we had issues with eggs/worms this season.  The seeds germinated so well and the plants were strong despite our neglect early on.  It's a delicious and tender broccoli, which I'd try again.

It has smaller side shoots than other varieties but keeps going much longer in the heat.
