1-3" blossoms 14" dwarf & 30" semi-dwarf plants Dahlia pinnata

Luminous diversity for you & pollinators, too!

Each plant of Hope is a Verb dahlia v.1, like each of us, is a unique, never-before-seen expression in a spectrum of lemon, cream, tangerine, crimson and plum blossoms on dwarf to semi-dwarf plants. Growing Dahlias from seed: Dahlias are octoploids with 8 sets of homologous chromosomes (humxns only have 2!) and the resulting permutations are endless as well as extraordinary.

What’s in a name? Not a passive act, cultivating hope and growing dahlias are crucial in these times — and not always easy — and we are here beside you in all the ways & seasons, Friends!

Hope is a Verb hails from innumerable crosses between dozens of collarette-style dwarf and semi-dwarf dahlias growing 14 to 30 inches tall. Their spectrum of diverse blooms are 1 to 3 inches wide with open centers dripping with nectar for pollinators, quite unlike most dahlias. Some plants express single-petal rays while most have many and others are bursting with blossoms too petaled to share their nectar with beneficial pollinators. Each seed unique! How often is it that we get to see a dahlia that has never existed before? It’s not hard to save your own seed (we hope you do!) and as you fall in love with individual plants, lift and save those tubers to enjoy for seasons to come. Hope is a Verb v.1 is the first iteration (version 1, hence v.1!) that we’re sharing with many, many more to come!

Hope is a Verb dahlia is part of Fruition’s See(d)ing the Change project, as are are YOU! Together, we are sowing the world we dream of, where deliciousness and diversity are embraced, amplifying the beauty and abundance that is resistance as well as resilience. Learn more here!

I started these in a small greenhouse in my backyard last spring. I put them in the ground in late spring, and the plants are huge and blooming beautifully now!

  2. Audra

I planted the seeds (not the tubers), and WOW! Such gorgeous colors! My favorite has petals that are lemon yellow close to the center, and salmon pink around the edges. Truly a stunning flower!
