Trailing Arbutus Blooms in the Cold (& So Shall We)

Growth is non-linear?

Spring is a process?!

Undaunted by the cold, may we bloom like the flowers who have bloomed amid snowstorms since time immemorial ✨

Such a splendid invitation to courage, you likely have walked past Trailing Arbutus, Epigaea repens, also known as Ground Laurel growing in oaky, slightly acidic soils (look for moss and low-bush blueberries…!) near you, as they thrive from what some people describe as Newfoundland to Florida over to the Northwest Territories.

These particular beauties are on the north rim of Parrish Gully, just above the 100+ foot drop of a waterfall about three miles from our farm.

Walking in this snowstorm today, wind wildly visible with countless falling flakes, I felt so accompanied by these flowers, as I have my entire life: In awe of their beauty & tenacity, in wonder of their faith deeper than fear, welcoming the world both as it is and as it may yet be.

Shall we?

Thanks to everyone who is resisting authoritarianism in their hearts, in our world; we feel (y)our tenacity and capacity, Loves.
