Organic Shiso HEIRLOOM Think lemon balm + Thai basil on a leaf that looks like purple, fringed basil: outrageously beautiful, incredibly delicious! (You may recognize its leaf and flavor from fine Japanese restaurants who sometimes replace nori with Shiso for certain rolls and sashimi.) A readily re-seeding annual, Shiso may 2-4’ tall or more, depending on fertility. It's long, strong stems, showy foliage and long vase life make it popular for cutting, as well. Our original seed came from one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen in Olympia, Washington. And it is magic.

Tricks to starting Shiso July 31, 2015

We have heard from several customers about low germination rates and want to share with you some easy methods to get well over 90% germination with Shiso. 1). They like warm soil (after the last frost) is the best time to start them either direct sow or two weeks prior indoors.  2). They need light to germinate, so cover as thinly as possible.  3). Store your seeds in the freezer up until planting. This should help anyone with limited results in the past.  Enjoy!
