Purple! Tomatoes!

Each glossy, glorious fruit ripens from green to purple to purple-crimson, borne in prolific clusters with classic tomato flavor and a red heart. Organic Dancing with Smurfs Cherry Tomato has a wide window of delectability: When she’s slightly under-ripe, her deep purple fruit is more firm with flavor more bright acid; as she turns more fully ripe her skin turns crimson where the sun directly lands, her flesh softening and flavor deepening. We’ll always be so grateful for our dear friend and mentor Dan Brisebois of Tourne Sol Seeds in Montreal for introducing us to this fabulous tomato.

At Fruition, we sow tomatoes in soil blocks indoors 2 months before final frost, early April for us here in Zone 5, germinating them on heat mats with ease. Good light is essential: Younger, less stressed seedlings are healthier and more abundant than older, more stressed seedlings.

Had to give it a low star rating because of really poor germination. Out of the entire packet I planted, there was only 1 seed that germinated. I used a heat mat, excellent growing medium. My other tomatoes and peppers sown at the same time germinated much better. I do have one seedling, so hopefully it will be a good plant, but it’s clear there was something wrong with these seeds.

Thanks so much for your feedback Jason. We are sorry to hear of the poor germination and would be happy to send out a replacement packet. Please reach out to heather@fruitionseeds.com and I will take care of you 🙂

Wishing you buckets of tomatoes and peppers! -Heather & The Fruition Team

Delicious but only was able to harvest a few cherry tomatoes before the whole plant was consumed by disease nearly over night, Here in SE Pa may have been some kind of wilt.
It was planted with Sungold and Juliet near by, both of which were not affected. If you spray or live in an area without wilt or never had wilt before it was tasty and seemed to be very productive

Organic Dancing with Smurfs Tomato

Planting Method: Transplant Only

When to sow: 6-8 weeks before last frost

Seed Depth: 1/8 inch      Days to Germination: 7-10 at 80°F (27°C)

Sowing and seedling care: Don’t start too early! Sow indoors 2 seeds/cell or soil block, & thin to 1. We recommend sowing on a heat mat at 80°F to emergence, 75°F after. Good light is essential: Younger, less stressed seedlings are healthier and more abundant than older, more stressed seedlings. Pot up to 3-4” pots when first true leaves, submerging 3/4 of the stem below soil.

When to transplant: Harden off & transplant outdoors after frost, again burying stem.

Strong 3′ trellis optional but helpful. Water soil, not leaves. Prune lowest stem “suckers” as they emerge.

Transplant Spacing:  2.5 feet    Sun Needs: Full

Days to Harvest: 60

Harvest: Indeterminate
